Finding hope in a hopless environment
It is true that in the world of today, it is very easy to lose hope because of the broken things that we see here and there. It seems that no body has control over anything. How can I be certain about my future? How can I fix things aroud me? I see so many things falling apart. “What a curse!” could be the words that one sees in the back of his mind.
This happens when you pass on the remote control to another person. Expecting others to fix the environment around me and make me feel good is like giving them my remote control. They can turn me OFF or ON. That is like I am in their mercy.
I must take responsibility to whatever happens around me. When I am responsible I am able to respond (response-able) to any stimulus. It is my response to whatever happens around me that causes my emotional status. I must make a choice that brings benefit to myself as well as others. I may be in a situation where people regularly argue and fight, I may be in a situation where someone gets mad at me, I may be in a situation where material needs are not fulfilled, etc. Now the question is “How do I respond to such situations?” Definitely, the common thing to do is respond accordingly. If someone screams at you scream back; if members of the family are arguing get involved in the conversation and shout at them. Would this help? No. It is like turning the lights off during night time.
Whenever there is misunderstanding and problems it is said to be darkness everywhere. It is important that a candle light during night time helps a great deal. I can become the candle light and let those who argue to see each other rather than letting them step on each other’s toe in the darkness. That brings benefit to the self and others. God is the light. Whenever He is invited there won’t be any darkness. Darkness and light can’t live together. That is why we have to keep God in our hearts. You become the little candle that gets its energy from the supreme eternal light, God. Remember you can be a source of inspiration for people around you. People will always see those who are stable emotionally at the time of crisis.
Take a break from the mundane life and reflect on the characters of GOD. Pray and get the energy that you need from time to time. Don’t be in a rush to fix problems that existed for long time. It took the Israelites 40 years to get to the Promised Land even with the direct supervision of the Almighty God. Moses didn’t make it to the Promised Land. Patience in faith is important. That means believing that things around me will change to the better and working towards achieving it.
... will continue.
